Weather and timing
The best time for a Bali wedding:
dry season, wet season and weather
Bali is warm all year round with a tropical climate, so in theory you can marry in any month. But if you want the best photos and no surprise downpours, choosing the right season matters. In short: the dry season is the safest, the wet season is the best value.
Dry season vs wet season
| Dry season | Wet season | |
|---|---|---|
| Months | Roughly May to September | Roughly November to March |
| Weather | Dry and settled, lots of blue sky | Warm and humid, mostly short afternoon showers |
| Pros | Best light for photos, outdoor ceremonies with peace of mind | Lush greenery, better rates, fewer tourists |
| Watch out for | Peak wedding season, so book venues early | You'll need an indoor back-up venue |
Season by season
Dry season (May to September): the most popular
This is Bali's golden wedding season. Plenty of sunshine and lower humidity make beach and clifftop ceremonies the safest bet, and the sunsets are at their best. The catch is that everyone wants these months, so popular venues often need booking six months or more ahead, and prices are at their highest.
Wet season (November to March): good value, with a plan B
"Wet season" sounds alarming, but Bali's rain mostly comes as short afternoon showers that clear quickly, not all-day downpours. The island is at its greenest, there are fewer visitors, and hotels and flights cost less. Choose a hotel with an indoor back-up venue and rain is no problem. The one period to avoid is Christmas and New Year, when prices climb noticeably.
In-between months (April and October): the hidden gems
April and October sit between the two seasons. The weather is usually still good, while prices and crowds have eased, which makes them a favourite with savvy couples.
💡 How far ahead should you book? For popular venues in the dry season, 6 to 12 months ahead. Even in the low season, allow 3 to 6 months to arrange guests' flights, rooms and paperwork. The earlier you start, the more choice you have.
What else to consider when choosing a date
- Guests' holidays: Hong Kong public holidays such as Easter and National Day make it easier for family and friends to take time off.
- Sunset time: for a sunset ceremony, plan the schedule around that season's sunset time.
- Local festivals: on Nyepi, Bali's Day of Silence (usually in March), the whole island stops for a day and the airport closes, so avoid it.
- Your own dates: many couples pick an anniversary or a date that means something to them.
